Composite Fillings
Composite resin fillings, or “tooth-colored fillings,” provide durability and resistance to fracture in small-to-mid-sized fillings that need to withstand moderate pressure from the constant stress of chewing. They can be used on either front or back teeth and are completely safe. We use high-quality composite materials Composites are mercury and heavy metal-free.
In the 1990s and 2000s composites were greatly improved and are said to have a compression strength adequate to be placed in molar teeth. Composites are placed while in a soft, dough-like state, but when exposed to ultraviolet light, they harden into a solid filling. A properly placed composite is comfortable, esthetically pleasing, strong and could last 10 years or more.
Why Composite Fillings?
- They are safe and contain no mercury or other heavy metals.
- They are strong and can be used in any tooth.
- They are attractive, with many shades of white to match your smile.
- Composite material bonds to the tooth surface better than metal amalgam.
- Patients report reduced sensitivity compared to amalgam fillings.
