Crowns, Inlays & Onlays

Generally made from ceramic zirconia, crowns (also called caps), inlays and onlays are solutions to decay or cosmetic defects that cannot be repaired by standard fillings. 

A crown replaces the entire coronal portion of a tooth. This can be done to treat decay, fractures, cosmetic defects or loss of tooth material due to abrasion (such as what can occur when “night grinding” goes unaddressed). The most common type of crown is a custom ceramic crown. The material is made to the exact shade and shape that results in the best aesthetic and orthodontic result. Crowns can also be prefabricated from various materials as a cheaper or more temporary option.

Inlays and onlays are used to treat similar defects when the affected area is limited to one side or surface of the tooth.
